| Tupolev Tu22 M3 "Backfire C" |
| Improving the 1/144 Minicraft kit |
| decades ago Revell released a russion supersonic bomber in 1/144 scale that looked amazing: The Tupolev Tu 22M2 aka "Backfire B". Around christmas I got the idea of starting a little research on the real thing. It came that I loved this aircraft and the newer version Tu22M3 more than the good ole Revell kit. So I ordered myself a "Backfire C" in 1/144 scale and studied the plastic parts. No need to tell that there were a lot of things to modify. Otherwise there wouldn't be a reason to display it on my website ;-)

When seeing a pic like this I ask myself: "What a piece of junk! You're flying this thing?" |

engine intake extension + fuselage needs an additional 2mm |
 |
panel lines needed to be re-scribed and some areas needed different shape or detail |
 |
The air intakes were completely wrong. So I begann re-designing them: 1 step - shape correction |
 |
step 2 - added 1,3mm styrene |
 |
wings has been cut off the body and gotten a shape correction |

the nose cone will be available as a replacement part in resin in my shop some day. Need to be build from scratch. The kit part did not match the original in any ways |

I tried to wheather the bird like the M3 on the picture shown in the introduction |

rear wing. The scratchbuilt engine nozzles and back-gun not glued to body yet. These parts still need a special metal surface. |
